She gathered her books, humming a cheerful tune as she prepared to leave.

A notification popped up on her phone, and she casually glanced at it. Her smile faltered slightly as she saw the email subject line: “Scholarship Application Update.” A small flicker of annoyance sparked within her; she'd completely forgotten about that. She opened the email.
